Biography of the Karat group
A year after the formation of the Burkert and Beijing team, Michael Schwandt and Bernd Roomer were replaced, and in M he went to fulfill the military duty of Neumann, and the Austrian Dreilich Austrian took over the functions of the leader-vocalist. The first full range of Karat turned out to be quite diverse - there were hard blues -rock numbers and more calm folk things.
However, the song "Konig Der Welt", which laid the foundations of the corporate "Karatov", the melodic progressive rock, attracted the greatest attention. Honestly, the debut of the group did not cause any commotion, but with the second full -length the team made a serious jerk. The basis of the success of the Uber Sieben Brucken was the eight -minute epic "der albatros" with indirect criticism of the Berlin wall and the title track that became a hit in Germany thanks to the Covere of the popular West German singer Peter Muffay.
Although the next plate did not contain pronounced numbers, the album "Schwanenkonig" helped strengthen the status of the group, both in the east and in the West. The peak of commercial success "Karat" was achieved in the year when the Der Blaue Planet disc was released. The radio detective composition, dedicated to the threat of nuclear and environmental disasters, was registered for many years on the German air, and the circulation of the album exceeded 1.3 million copies, which became an absolute record for the then GDR.
The debut of the new bass player took place on the album "Funfte Jahreszeit", which had a pronounced commercial sound. The release was accompanied by the resignation of Swillms, who had left for health reasons, and Thomas Kurzals replaced him on the keys. The IM Nachsten Frieden disc was released in the year after the fall of the Berlin Wall, however, since the popularity of the teams from East Germany sharply shook, the work went unnoticed here, neither reorientation for radio pop rock, nor the appearance of Maffai at Uber Sieben Brucken.
In M "Karat" they tried to restore the renom with the help of the album of the same name, but the undertaking failed, and the group fell silent for several years. By the middle of the X, the public again began to show interest in "democratic" music, and reprints on the CD of the early "Karatov" albums began to be in sustainable demand. In addition, the album "Die Geschenkte Stunde" was released, on which the keyboard player Martin Bekker debuted.
The work returned the team to early processive roots and found many buyers in the eastern lands.
The Balance disc that appeared two years later was also a good success, but in M, Dreilich worsened health problems, and the concert activity sharply declined. The exception was the anniversary year, when the performance of Karat with the returned Swillms returned to the person to the person. The studio "Licht und Schatten", marked by the first appearance of a song with English -speaking text, came out in M.
Unfortunately, the planned tour at the company with Puhdys and City had to be canceled due to the deterioration of Herbert’s condition, and in December the group of the group died of cancer.
