Biography of the skipper hek
Friedolf Hek: the captain and his octane on July 27, the funds of the V. Arsenyev museum stored an amazing exhibit - Oktan Friedolf Hek, the “knight of the eastern seas”, a brave sailor, whale and researcher of the Far East. The tool was made in the middle of the 19th century from metal and wood at a factory in the UK. Octane, or octant, is used in navigation and for hydrographic work to measure the corners and determine the location of the stars in the sky.
He was transferred to the museum in the year by the grandson of Huck, Georgy Nikolaevich Vasyukevich. Oktan, who belonged to Friedolf Heku Friedolf Kirillovich Huck, was born in Finland in a large family of impoverished nobles. Although parents could not provide the young man with money, he received another, no less important wealth - stubbornness and strong character. Having entered Yunga at the Olga Brig, Huck decided to never part with the sea.
Between the fulfillment of the numerous duties of Yunga, he worked hard and entered the naval school of the Finnish city of Abo in the year. Friedolf Huck. Photo by K. Schulz Friedolf successfully passed the exam for the navigator and hired the Count Berg Brig, who went to the Pacific Ocean - the cradle of Russian whaling. In a short time, Huck perfectly mastered the technique of dangerous whaling, after which he returned to the Baltic to continue his studies.
Friedolf Kirillovich Huck 3rd on the left in the upper row after passing the skipper exam in the city of Abo, Finland later the fate of the navigator made a steep turn, tightly tied his life with Primorye. In the summer of the year, a society of enthusiasts arose in Finland, who dreamed of building a fair better life. This good undertaking decided to embody this good undertaking in the Primorsky region of Eastern Siberia.
Friedolf Hek personally went to St. Petersburg to seek funding for a resettlement project and received funds for the purchase of the emperor Alexander II brig. The nine -month swimming of the colonists was not easy. Here's how Valery Yankovsky describes him in the book “Nanuni”: “Singing, almost died ... And only the skipper hek did not lose heart ... One brought the whole crew, saved the ship and people.” Travelers reached the find and decided to settle in the shooter of the bay.
But it was not possible to build utopia on the shores of the Japanese Sea by the immigrants: hunhuza robbers, climate and failure in fishing activity prevented. In the year, the emigrant society ceased to exist, the land was returned to the state, and the emperor Alexander II brig was transferred to the Siberian Flotilla on the payment of the loan. After the failure of the resettlement project, Friedolf Huck returned to the whaling business.
He was invited to work by a compatriot, coastal entrepreneur Otto Lindholm. The navigator suggested that Lindholm make improvements to the design of the harpoon gun, which simplified the task of sailors. The whaling craft brought a good income, and soon Huck acquired his own ship with the name "sea cow". He became a free skipper - the so -called ship fleet namers who were not in public service were called in imperial Russia.
The skipper decided to settle in the Far East and, together with his friend Mikhail Yankovsky, settled in the town of Sidemi Bezverkhovo. A terrible loss turned the life of Huck in June: the Hunghuzy killed his wife and abducted his son, whom he unsuccessfully searched for the end of his days. Friedolf Hek's borrowing on the sites Huck made a huge contribution to the study of the territory and water area of Primorye.
He immensely loved this place, enthusiastically described the local harsh nature and wealth of the sea. The admiration of the Far East aroused in the talented sailor a special observation and interest of the researcher. In the year, under the command of Friedolf, Hek Schun, Sibir went to the shores of Chukotka to establish trade ties with the local population. In fact, the flight became a scientific expedition: 63 settlements on the coast of Kamchatka and Chukotka were investigated, maps and descriptions of the coasts were compiled, and the names are given to many capes and bays.
This greatly simplified navigation in the little-wrecked waters of the northwestern coast. Huck also collected amazing collections of objects of culture and life of the peoples of the North and handed them over to the Society of the Study of the Amur Territory, of which he became a member of the year. The collection of Eskimos objects made by him during the northern flights has no analogues around the world.
The skipper constantly brought to Vladivostok new ethnographic exhibits and samples of the sea fauna, and also wrote essays for the newspaper Vladivostok. Since the year, Huck was headed by the Fisheries Service of the Watchtower, the tasks of which were the protection of cats and the fight against poaching. At the same time, he continued to shoot the sea, study the bottom relief, measure the depth of water in different areas.
The results of his studies were used in the publication of sea cards by hydrographic control, and to this day sailors turn to cards with a note "on the eye shooting of a heck skipper." The schooner "Watchman". The drawing of B. Sychev was such a life and research path of a brave and selfless captain.A lot of tests fell to his lot, but in any circumstances he was devoted to his work and the Primorsky Territory with all his heart, and the sea remained the main love of Huck until the end of his days.
Oktan, who belonged to Fridolf Heku, allows you to imagine how the captain spent his days on the bridge without parting with a faithful assistant during cartographic research. So the museum item in its own way tells the story of an amazing person-a sailor, sincerely in love with the Far East. Friedolf Fabian Kirillovich Hek. Drawing by V.
